The Fourth

Here are the highlights of our Independence Day:

*The parade: it was sure hot, but the girls got tons of candy and loved all the floats and people. They waved their little flags with pride!
*BBQ: We had a yummy BBQ with the Ormonds. Lots of yummy food and visiting.
*Fireworks: We went plenty early to stake out an awesome spot on the grass by the fairgrounds. The girls played and ran around, we picked up pizzas, we lit some fireworks, adults played corn hole, and then we watched a great show with HUGE fireworks right over our heads! ...And then it took us over an hour to drive home 5 miles. ;)

I am so grateful for this blessed country, for the freedoms we enjoy, and for those who fight to protect that freedom.

I got especially teary-eyed as we sang this verse of The Star-Spangled Banner last Sunday:

Oh, thus be it ever, when free men shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust!"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Birthday Happenings

On Saturday we took the girls to iJump for something fun to do early for Claire's birthday. The girls loved it and had a blast! They bounced their little hearts out and Avri was even brave enough to attempt backflips into the foam pit! She did great, except for one minor incident coming too close to the trampoline and getting a little tramp burn on her cheek. But that didn't stop her from trying again and again. Claire was hilarious and jumped on the blue mats just as much as the actual trampolines. And she was much more cautious about the foam pits...she preferred to carefully climb down into it rather than jump. :)

After that we had a little lunch at Red Robin. We had the servers sing to Claire and they brought her an ice cream sundae. She was not so sure about all those strangers singing to her!

We took Claire to Toys-R-Us to spend the birthday gift certificate she got from the birthday club. She picked out some sparkly Ariel high heels. She loves them so much she even tried to sleep in them on Saturday night. She decided they weren't very comfortable for sleeping in. ;)

On Sunday after church we did a few fun activities that the birthday girl enjoys (games, fingernail painting, reading books, a walk to the playground, coloring play masks from JoAnns) Then we had dinner and a little party with cake and presents. Claire was very excited about her Anna & Elsa shirt, the fleece blanket I made her, and most importantly her bubble machine. That was all she asked for and she loves it!

All in all we had a great weekend of family fun and loved celebrating our Claire Bear!!

Happy Birthday Claire!

How is my baby 3 years old?!? Oh how we love our sweet Claire Bear! Here are some random tidbits about the birthday girl:

*If I tell her 'no' about something she'll usually say "O-tay, Mom. That o-tay."
*She loves to have her fingernails and toenails painted, but she peels most of it off within a day or two.
*She loves to run around with the big kids and hates to be left out.
*She is getting really good at riding Emery's bike (with training wheels). It's definitely time to bump everybody up to the next size bike...we just have to find one for Avri first. ;)
(Don't worry...we got those handlebars turned around for her. ;))

*She often gets up in the middle of the night for a "link" (drink). She'll be wide awake too, but as soon as she has her drink she goes right back to sleep.
*Ever since she found out she was going to be a big sister she won't let anyone get away with referring to her as a baby. She will correct us and remind us that she is a "big tister"!
*She loves to go to Nursery! In fact, she starts asking if it's nursery time before they even pass the sacrament! Makes for a long sacrament meeting, that's for sure! :)
*Her hair is thickening up and growing a bit...but mostly in the back. Hopefully soon it will get growing!
*One time while I was holding her and she was giving me a hug with her arms around my neck, I let go and let her hang on with her legs dangling, and told her she was my beautiful necklace. This is now one of her favorite tricks and she will randomly ask me or James if she can be our necklace.
*Usually when she tells me she has to go potty she will wait to run to the bathroom until I specifically say, "Run and go!". Sometimes she even says, "Mom, say 'run and go'!"
*She still has an adorable little pout.
*She loves to say things are "bootiful"!
*She is quick to give compliments and to say thank you, several times in a row. So sweet.
*She doesn't nap regularly, but will sometimes conk out on my bed or the couch.

*She adds -ed or -es to words. I think Avri did this too. "I jumped-ed off the step", "The kind you buy-ed", "We wore mask-es". I think it's pretty cute.
*Her speech is a bit hard to understand and she struggles with some of her letter sounds. I'm hoping it will correct itself, but we'll see.
*She doesn't like to sit still. She'll sit for a show (favorites are Doc McStuffins, Daniel Tiger, Sofia the 1st, etc), but gets pretty restless for movies, or anything else that requires sitting still for long.
*She is really independent about some things ("I do it myself!"), but for other things she just wants us to do it for her and refuses to try.
*She has always been a pretty good eater and still is.
*She loves to cuddle and give loves.
*She loves to sit on the counter to help Dad when he cooks. Her favorite is stirring. She loves to help Mom too, but Mom lets her stand on a chair or stool.
*She's a lot like Emery in that she is lots of sugar and lots of spice. She can be so sweet, helpful, and caring, but she is also so stubborn, mischievous, bossy, and has some attitude. She keeps us on our toes!
*She just has the cutest little face and I love to kiss it!
*She loves to give compliments and tell people how much she loves them, and how they are the best.
*She is very shy and reserved around new people, and even sometimes around close friends or family.
*She likes to tease, mostly to get a rise out of her sisters. She definitely knows how to push their buttons and get a little extra attention.
*She likes to sing her ABC's and count.
*James often mentions that he loves what a sweet sleeper Claire is. When he comes home late he checks on all the girls, and he says almost always when he pulls Claire's covers up or kisses her goodnight she'll open her eyes, smile at him, and then go back to sleep.
*If you ask her if she's Mommy's girl or Daddy's girl she'll say "Both!" Smart girl.
*Her nicknames are still Claire Bear and JoJo, and Emery often calls her BearBear.
*Her go-to excuse for anything is "my belly hurts" She'll whip that one out if she wants a treat, if she doesn't want to go to bed, or if she doesn't want to eat something.
*Height: 37 inches, 70th percentile
*Weight: 32 lbs, 54th percentile

Sometimes I'm a fun mom....like when we get one of those free newspapers on the doorstep and the girls ask if they can shred it to pieces and then throw it around the living room to pretend it's snowing...

And I last about five minutes with the mess before I make them clean it all up... ;)

Fathers

To the man who will always have a little piece of my heart and is in my thoughts every day... Thank you for teaching me how to serve, how to exercise my faith, and how to love life. I'm still working on all of those qualities, but I'm so grateful for the example you set for your family. You have left a legacy of faith, optimism, and integrity. I love you Dad!

To the man who taught my husband how to be a man... I'm so grateful for the memories of you that have been shared with me and our children...taking trips to dreamland, homemade noodles, that you were adventurous and full of life, that you served and cared for others, and that although you worked so hard day in and day out, you always made your family a priority. We love you Myron!

To the man who has my heart... And the hearts of his three little girls... Thank you James, for being an exceptional husband and father who honors his Priesthood, serves his family and others, works hard to provide for our needs, and who isn't afraid to get down on the floor and play. We love you, we are so grateful for you, Happy Father's Day!
